Adrian and Kelly Piestrup – 6/28/09

  • Posted on July 15, 2009 at 10:49 pm

Hello again!
Heres another wedding I wanted to share with all of you- From 6/28/09 at Guana’s South Beach Access (South Ponte Vedra Beach). A little Backstory Kelly found me on Craigslist— You have really got to start expecting that :) — She is an artist and wanted to find a photographer she could mesh with, someone that wouldn’t mind her painting and showcasing the photos, and was very “reasonable” when it came to rates (it actually ended up being more of a barter- portraits and publicity for wedding photos) Win win! ***Please dont be afraid to ask and offer*** Kelly will be painting a few of her pictures and displaying them on her website, and painting a family portrait for me (from a JPG file). So if you ever want something painted or are looking for more art hit her up!
Without further delay here is Kelly and Adrian!

I was set to arrive at Guana’s South Beach Access (Right off of the infamous A1A) around 4:30pm and while it was overcast I held on to hope that we wouldnt get rained out. It was a very simplistic wedding- Groom and groomsmen in white shirts and Khakis, Bridesmaids were set to anything in the blue family, but the bride was in a gorgeous gown and veil (gown found on CL :) ).

Adrian built an alter in which they hung a “truce bell”– Most all of us have never heard of such a thing, I know I hadn’t. The truce bell took place of unity candles or sand ceremonies for this wedding. The officiant marries the couple and right before the kiss the bell is rung. This symbolizes a clean slate for the marriage. The couple will hang the truce bell in their home and when fighting one or the other will ring the bell in order to call the fight to an end. I thought this was a very interesting tradition to share, one that may catch on for future brides.

The couple shared their own vows and a sweet kiss and hug- Then it was portrait time!
Now with Kelly being an artist I felt a little more liberated in using some very “artistic” techniques for the pictures. Since it was a beach wedding close to sunset I had ample opportunity to work my magic. Family shots were taken under the alter. Group formals on the dunes. Finally my favorite the bride and groom shots by the water and on the wooden walkway.

From there we had to haul boogity to get to the reception location- Happy Stefanos Pizzeria- Before the rain came falling down.

Granted we were lucky for the ceremony and posed shots, it did start raining on the way to the reception as well as most of the way through it. That wasnt bad though, the reception was very rain proof with the covered balconies and inside setting.
I didnt stay for much of the reception but I did manage to catch the great food and beautiful desserts! Looking at Kelly’s dress can you guess what the cake looked like? Blue? Three tiered? Cutesy little toppers? WRONG! They chose something completey out of the box and orginial– made by the bride herself! A chocolate portrait. She took a picture of them, bought lots of chocolate, and used her artistic abilities to create this masterpeice.

It may not be your “slice of cake” but it is pretty amazing none the less!

Thank you very much Adrian and Kelly for sharing your day with me (as neat as it was) and Good luck.
Hopefully you won’t have to ring that bell very often!

Kevin and Supora Fairbanks- 6/27/09

Hello Again,
I just finished a recent wedding and am in the process of uploading it, but while my computer is running slowly I find a spare moment to share Kevin and Supora’s Wedding with you. Keep an eye out I have another one I am working on and hope to finish very soon.

Supora found me on Craigslist (again this is the second wedding in the month of June that found me on CL), but instead of contacting me through Craigslist Supora checked my website and did her homework. She contacted me a very short message through my website (www.vanessabryanfreelance.com) Something along the lines of “I need a photographer in my budget of $300″ — I did contact her back and set up a meeting for the very next day. While I no longer offer wedding photography that low, I was willing to compromise and show them that my services were well worth the little extra I was charging— they really wanted the album!

The wedding was at a location I had never shot before the Arlington Women’s Club. It was a nice little place off of University Blvd, pleasantly decorated with greens— This complimented the deep red theme Supora chose. I found an arch set up where the couple would get married, with a cute little painted wall behind them featuring a very relaxing bridge scene.

Supora arrived shortly after I did and a mix of friends and family helped her get ready in the bathroom. It was nice seeing everyone pull together for those last minute touches.

Finally it was time to get the show on the road- Supora was ready and the wedding party had lined up ready to make a grand entrance! I must say they most definitely did. It was a rather large party with 1 best man, 5 grooms men, 2 ring bearers, 2 ushers, 2 maids of honor, 4 brides maids, and a flower girl — 19 in all including the bride and groom! As they made their entrance into the hall each couple took a step and the men spun the women, then again at the isle, and once more at the alter. Most of them danced all the way down! Quite a show and such a neat thing to witness. Definitely a lively bunch!

Once the party took their places- Supora stole the show. She wore a very simplistic floor length white gown with a bit of a train and some sequins at her waist, and a delicate tiara. The ceremony was quite traditional with the ring exchange and unity candle. In lighting the candle it fell, luckily it did not go out and the ceremony continued. See there will always be something forgotten, something dropped, or something will go wrong– All you can hope for is it is a minor mishap and you can have a sense of humor about it.

Once all was said and done the couple kissed and made their exit with the wedding party dancing behind them.

The party got in a white limo and we drove to a neighboring apartment complex that had a beautiful dock stretching out onto the St. Johns River and one of its bridges in the background. There we took most all of the posed shots and I got some really beautiful Bride and Groom shots before returning to the Women’s Club for the reception

Once returning to the reception, at the Arlington Women’s Club, we finished any posed shots. The party made their entrance into the hall, and the Dj announced Mr and Mrs Kevin Fairbanks to all of their family and friends. The couple shared their first dance, danced with their parents, then danced with their friends. The cut the cake and sweetly fed it to each other. Supora throw her bouquet and Kevin retrieved and threw the garter. Then as tradition the catcher of the bouquet had the garter placed on by the gentleman who caught it.

Thank you Kevin and Supora for letting me share in your day. Good luck!

Doug and Carol Eleyet- 6/13/09

Hello again everyone,
I wanted to share a little about a recent wedding June 13, 2009- The lovely couple Doug and Carol contacted me through Craigslist ( I get a lot of customers through craigslist). After learning more about them and a few price quotes later, my economy specials served a purpose. We conversed through email and never actually met until the wedding. Think thats strange? You should hear Carol tell you the story of her longlasting friendship via the internet- Its quite amazing!

I was very excited in returning to Rainbow Springs State Park, In Dunnellon, FL. I had a wedding there in January and grew up in Dunnellon for most of my life- so it was a nice retreat visiting family along the way. If you’ve never been to Rainbow Springs State Park or are planning a wedding in the area VISIT IT SOON! Its very beautiful and wedding friendly – Offering free parking, $1 entrance fee, gazebo’s, pavillions, clear fresh water (72 degrees year round), and some of the most amazing scenery around! Check out the pictures and see for yourself!

Upon entering the park, I realized that the wedding had been moved. Orginially intended for the Gazebo was now taking place in the main pavillion because the forcast called for rain. Luckily it didn’t rain and the wedding was beautiful!

In a nice little twist, the couple decided to have a sand’s ceremony rather than unity candles. This was a great thing to witness, and a nice keepsake for the mantle. They did have the traditional ring exchange. All together the ceremony- while short and simple- was very beautiful.

After the ceremony the wedding party and I took a nice nature walk from the pavillion to the gazebo and waterfalls.

I shot group formals inside the gazebo and infront of one of the waterfalls— this fall was the largest in the park.

It was nice to see the families blend so well together.
Following the group formals come my favorite shots- the bride and groom formals. I enjoy these shots the most in every wedding I have captured. It so wonderful to take the couple aside and let them enjoy newlywed bliss for a few minutes before traipsing back to the reception. We visited some of the other falls.

We also took a walk on the peir, and overlooked the water

Once Doug, Carol, and I were content with the photographs and wanting to escape the heat(!)- leave it to me to wear all black- we joined the rest of the party back at the pavillion for the reception. Toasts were given by the maid of honor and best man, we enjoyed a nice cold drink and some shade.

Then the couple cut the cake and shared their first dance.

Overall it was a simple wedding and reception, with a touch of tradition and a bit of pizazz! Thanks Carol and Doug for sharing your day with me and Good Luck in your years to come.
